18-wheelers charred in fire at Love’s Travel Stop north of downtown Houston – Chron

Firefighters tackled a fire that charred two 18 wheelers Thursday at a truck stop north of downtown Houston.

Bystander video shared with Chron.com shows two cabs fully engulfed in flames in the back lot of the Love’s Travel Stop at Patton and the North Freeway. Firefighters were called to the service station around 2:30 p.m. to reports that an apartment was on fire.

They quickly realized that the fire was actually in the nearby gas station parking lot.

It took firefighters all of 30 minutes to tackle most of the flames, which erased a big, black plume of smoke that hovered over the North Freeway. Drivers slowed on the freeway try and peer at what was causing the smoke, but their view of the flames was blocked by trees and buildings.

Arson detectives are investigating what started the fire. No injuries were reported.
